 My Thoughts

When I picked up this book I actually smiled. Yes I did because I just know what to expect from this author and she delivered just as I knew she would. This book just made me feel good as it swept me away into Katharine's life.

Katharine has had enough! After being passed over for a promotion at the gallery...she packs her stuff up and leaves, without as much as a goodbye! She has lost the position she has worked so hard for to the buddy of her boss. Good thing she has her boyfriend John for support...oh wait...not exactly. John can't commit to a cup of coffee....yet she keeps hanging on to him. UGH...

When she takes off to her hometown to start her own gallery, I keep hoping she will find love. Although it seems to be unlikely with the current company she is keeping...her brother, her father...oh and there is Kit. Yes there is Kit..he is..a challenge. He gives her a run for her money and I love it. The snarky banter back and forth. They loved to hate each other. Will this be an enemies turned lovers? Will John finally see what he had?

I loved this rom-com and flew through it! The characters were so well developed that I felt I knew them. If you just want an easy read that will entertain you and make you smile this is the one for you. It will make you feel all warm inside.

The Silent Conspiracy by L.C. Shaw

Holy cliffhanger! I am going to go out on a limb here and say there is about 99.9999% chance there is going to be another book in this series!

I did read the first in this series...The Network, but this can be read as a stand-alone. The author does a great job of filling you in. However, I felt like I knew the true evil possessed by Damon Crosse due to my having met him the last novel.

We meet up again with Taylor and Jack. Both investigating a rash of violent crimes by otherwise normal citizen..brutal and shocking...are they connected?? Another story is brewing about an insurance company making some very questionable decisions...let's just say Taylor and Jack find themselves very busy this time around.

This was an action packed book just like the first one in the series. As the book intensified the chapters got shorter and I found myself flying through them.

If you didn't know by now, I will clue you in. L.C. Shaw in the other half of Liv Constantine..who wrote The Last Mrs. Parrish, The Last Time I Saw You and The Wife Stalker!

Thank you so much to HarperCollins for my gifted copy in exchange for an honest review.

The White Coat Diaries by Madi Sinha

Grey's Anatomy meets Scrubs in this brilliant debut novel about a young doctor's struggle to survive residency, love, and life.

Having spent the last twenty-something years with her nose in a textbook, brilliant and driven Norah Kapadia has just landed the medical residency of her dreams. But after a disastrous first day, she's ready to quit. Disgruntled patients, sleep deprivation, and her duty to be the "perfect Indian daughter" have her questioning her future as a doctor.

Enter chief resident Ethan Cantor. He's everything Norah aspires to be: respected by the attendings, calm during emergencies, and charismatic with the patients. As he morphs from Norah's mentor to something more, it seems her luck is finally changing.

When a fatal medical mistake is made, pulling Norah into a cover-up, she must decide how far she's willing to go to protect the secret. What if "doing no harm" means risking her career and the future for which she's worked so hard?

 My Thoughts

I loved this book! As an ER nurse this definately resonated with me. Honestly I will be excited to see what non medical people think of this book. I am not sure if I enjoyed it so much because I nodded my head like a billion times going - yep that is how the ED rolls because there is so much truth in this book. If you are expecting a rom-com I would say it really isn't that. It is more like the struggles that a new physician takes on in a crazy environment.  I flew through this book in a day as I was completely entertained.

Norah - aka Dr. Kapadia is a resident that gets thrown into the craziness of the ED. Welcome to our world Norah. I love that this book shows how things really are. The general public I believe is under the impression that if you graduate medical school, you know it all. Okay people but not every situation can be taught in med school. Although Nora made some major mistakes, I can't say I have not seen things like this happen. Although in real life I think someone would have stepped in and stopped her, but that would not make this as entertaining or as shocking as it was.

I felt Norah's pain as she questioned herself and hid in the storage room. When she had her first needle stick- yep that will make  you question- why the hell am I doing this? Better yet the abuse you take from the general public. She nailed it on some of that. Quite frankly she downplayed that because the readers probably wouldn't believe that patients actually do this stuff. HAHAHA- believe me they do. I have  had someone pour their urine on my computer keyboard...because their doctor didn't give them what they wanted. So Norah's story nailed it!

Why did give it 4 stars even though I loved it? It is because I was a bit put off by a huge moral dilemma that takes place. Let's just say I am one of those "ER nurses" that Norah thought were against her. I would not let that happen on my watch. I would go over Norah's head because it is my job to be my patient's advocate- not my job to worry if the physician is going to be mad at me.

I really enjoyed this book and it kept me flipping the pages. It was better than Grey's Anatomy because the author is a physician and knows the proper lingo. I don't know if some of this will be lost on non medical people, but it wasn't lost on me. Very enjoyable read for me. I loved it!

For The Best by Vanessa Lillie

I loved this book! Can you say #blindsided????

Jules is living the charmed life...until she isn't.  Jules had it going on- she had the perfect man, son and job. However, Jules likes to have a drink...or two...or seven. Yes, it is fair to say that Jules has a bit of a drinking  problem. She has managed to be a functional drunk....until her life changes. When she gets a knock at the door and finds out the person she was with last night was found dead..in the alley and she was last seen with him..how could it get worse?! Oh wait, this is how...her wallet was found next to the dead guy. Oh boy...Jules you have a problem.

So when Jules swears she is innocent, I want to believe her, but girlfriend was black out drunk and can't remember a thing. Except not everyone that night is having trouble remembering. Hmmm...So there is that. I loved, loved, loved that Jules created a vlog! I will just put out a disclaimer that this is a video blog for those of  you who are like me and will have to google it. You are welcome, I saved you a google. I really enjoyed reading her vlog transcripts. SO entertaining!

I love to pick up a book by an author I have never read before. There is always an ah- ha moment for me when I realize, yeah this author is my style of writing or not. This time, I swear I was on the very first chapter and I said to myself...WOW this is going to be my kind of book. I am telling you it didn't disappoint. I never, ever saw the twists coming...completely blinded me! I just added Little Voices to my list of "must read" books!

Thank you so much to Kathleen Carter for sending me this finished copy and to Vanessa Lillie for a great read!
