My Lovely Wife by Samantha Downing

OMG OMG OMG!!! Yes I am speechless as I finished up my most anticipated book of the year! It not only lived up to my expectations, it far exceeded them! Whew, how is this a debut? I mean really I am floored that this is Samantha Downing's first book. New thriller queen in the house!

I am going to try my hardest not to give anything away, just know you really need to read this. This is one of the most unique and well spun thriller plots I have come across and believe me I have read plenty. Don't think this is another wife and husband thriller with a plot you have read before.

Millicent and her husband have a fantastic loving marriage. Fifteen years of wedded bliss with two wonderful children. Living in the peaceful suburbs they are just the perfect little family. How do they keep their marriage so fresh and their love so strong? They must work hard to keep each other happy. OH my god you have no idea. I have never read about such a dysfunctional couple. I can only say I felt like Millicent was a pet tiger and her husband would secretly bring home fresh meat to feed her. LOL. I have no other way to describe what I read.

It is great when you know from the very first chapter that you are going to love it. The writing style had a raw, edgy humor to it and that is my favorite! I can't quite explain why I got suckered into liking this couple. It is awful to say that no matter what they did, I just couldn't quite hate them. I really didn't want this book to end. I was so wrapped up in their story. When I least expected it this story took a crazy turn leaving me dumbfounded. Did I miss the clues? I think not, it was just so well spun.

Obviously I loved the hell out of this book. I can't recommend it enough. I read this as a group with my fellow Traveling Sisters and we all loved it. Be on the lookout for their review. I sure hope Samantha Downing is banging out a new book in the near future. I for one will be first in line trying to get my hands on it! Now excuse me while I lock all my eye drops up, you know just in case anyone gets any ideas.

Thank you so much to Samantha Downing, Berkley and Edelweiss for this fantastic ARC!

The Girl Across the Street by Vikki Patis

You’re hiding a secret that only she can see.

Her name is Beth. She came into my life when I needed her the most. We lead very different lives, but she’s the only person who understands me.

She was the only other witness to the terrible accident on the street between our homes. The only person who saw the cracks in my perfect life before I had the chance to cover them up.

It’s been so long since I’ve had a friend. Someone to talk to, to listen to, to laugh and dream with.

Beth would never do anything to hurt me.

She only wants what’s best for me, for my marriage.

Doesn’t she?

An unputdownable psychological suspense thriller that will grip you until the very last page. Perfect for fans of Gone GirlThe Girl on the Train and The Couple Next Door.

My Thoughts

I am over the moon excited to be on this books on tour for The Girl Across the Street. I want to share with anyone that will listen what a fantastic psychological thriller Ms. Patis has managed to turn out. I was literally hooked from the very first chapter and flew through this in a day. I simply could not stand to put it down! I am now nursing a book hangover.

Right from the first page we are on an adrenaline filled ride with this one. It opens with a hit and run resulting in a male jogger lying in the street. Both Isla and Beth happened to be in the area and witness it. They rush to perform CPR but  they are unable to save him. There is no one else to help the two girls because it is 3am and the street is deserted.

As an emergency room nurse I can tell you there is no other bonding experience like witnessing the loss of a life. When you are desperately trying to save someone's life and no matter how hard you try it can not be done. The feeling is devastating and you will always remember who was there with you. That is why it did not surprise me that Isla and Beth had bonded over this traumatic experience. They sought each other out after the incident and soon became good friends.

What did come as a surprise were the secrets, deceptions and lies among most of the people in the book. I began to question why were these two random people outside on the same street at 3am? These girls seemed to have nothing in common, they came from two different worlds. As we dig into their secrets they might have more in common than one would think.

Tense, fast paced, enthralling psychological thriller. Just when I thought we had unraveled all the secrets, another shocking twist comes along. You just want until you read the ending! The author knocked it out of the park with this one. Plan on pulling an all nighter because once you start you won't want to stop reading it! It is well worth the book hangover!
Thank you so much to Bookouture and Vikki Patis for having me along on this tour.

Daisy Jones & The Six by Taylor Jenkins Reid

What a wild ride this was! Taylor Jenkins Reid morphed us right into the 70's and into the rock and roll scene. It doesn't get much wilder than that. I have been dying to read this and have had to use a great deal of self control to put it off closer to the publication date. Brenda from Two Sisters Lost in a Coulee and myself jumped into this for a buddy read. It certainly gave us plenty to talk about!

I watched a recent interview with Taylor Jenkins Reid on a morning show here in the U.S. and she brought up how many people were goggling the band to see if they were real.  Guilty as charged! I must admit when the blurb first came out on this book, I took to google. It just sounded so real. Since I would have been a small child during this time I found myself wondering if this band did exist and I just haven't heard about it? Well by now we all know the answer to that one.

I loved, loved, loved the format of this book. It is entirely in an interview format. I was a bit concerned in the beginning that this might lessen the character development. Instead I felt liked it really let each character's personality shine through. It also let you clearly see how each person had a different perception of the same situation.  Oh my did they!  I found that the interview format made the ending tie in perfectly. I must admit that part really surprised me, you will know what I mean if you have read the book!

If you are in the mood for a little walk on the wild side- here's your book! Definately plenty of drugs, sex and rock and roll! I loved how the author got into the gritty side of it and dug beneath the perceived glamour of fame. Even though this is a work of fiction, I am sure it is not far off from the truth. It's one of those books that will sweep you away into a different time and place.

Thank you so much to Taylor Jenkins Reid, Random House Publishing Ballentine and BookSparks for this ARC

My Summer of Love and Limoncello by Sue Roberts

Three best friends, Italian sunshine and a handsome stranger can fix just about anything… Can’t it?

Maisie Knight had it all. A gorgeous husband. A successful business. A beautiful home. Until one day, after walking into the storeroom of their shop, she loses it all at once – catching her husband cheating on her with the girl from Checkout 3. So when she wins a holiday to Italy, a week under the Tuscan sun couldn’t come soon enough.

Treating best friends Cheryl and Emma to a girls’ trip, the terracotta-roofed Villa Marisa on a rustic farm awaits them. The fields of golden sunflowers could be the perfect cure for Maisie’s broken heart – and local farmer, suspiciously perfect Gianni, with his thick black hair and twinkling brown eyes is a welcome distraction from her broken heart.

Mornings waking up to freshly brewed coffee and views of the rolling hills, moped rides with cheeky Italians, and feasts of prosecco and pasta help Maisie forget her troubles. After all her heartache, she’s surprised when she starts opening up to Gianni – she’s even more surprised when the temperature rises and it’s not just the rays of the Italian sunshine…

Maisie could get used to the good life. But just as she’s getting her spark back, disaster strikes. The next thing she knows, her past is catching up with her, reopening old wounds and Maisie has a life-changing decision to make. Should she say ciao to her summer of love and limoncello?

A laugh-out-loud page turner about second chances, finding happiness when you least expect it and the restorative power of Italian food! Fans of Carole Matthews and Sophie Kinsella will be totally hooked by My Summer of Love and Limoncello

My Thoughts

Fun, sun and beautiful landscaping are the perks of this book as we are whisked away to Italy with Maisie and her friends. An absolute delightful read  that had me flipping through the pages.

Maisie felt a sense failure as her marriage dissolved and the recent loss of her mother. Maisie found herself  beginning to struggle with depression and anxiety. Her doctor suggested a vacation where she could relax and spend some time in the sun. As luck would have it she won a trip to Tuscany for two! She grabbed her friends and us and we were all emerged into the charming culture and sights of Tuscany.

This book was so atmospheric I could feel the warmth of the sun and the smell of the fresh pastries baking. The local residents in the quaint village were so welcoming that it helped to mend Maisie's broken heart. In a village where everyone knows each other the presence of the newcomers were defiantly noticed. I found myself wondering how different this trip would have been if she had still been with her ex husband when she won this dreamy trip for two.

Heartwarming, fun and an easy read this book will bring a smile to your face as you flip through the pages. I was instantly transformed into the warm Tuscany lifestyle. Thanks for the vacation Sue Roberts! It was much needed.

The Night Olivia Fell by Christina McDonald

I am speechless...The Night Olivia Fell blew me away. I can't even remember the last time a book had this emotional pull on me. This book was not even on my radar until my reading group The Traveling Sisters organized a group read for it. I am so glad I joined in and read this with them.

When I read the description of this book, I said no I can't read this. I am an ER nurse and I see so much heartache that I try not to read about it on my time off too. I just want to put this out there in case you are worried about reading it. Yes it tugs at your heartstrings but the whole book wasn't focused on the family sitting at bedside, as I thought it would be. I must say I was relieved and pleasantly surprised as I quickly figured this out.

The majority of the story was trying to determine what happened to Olivia. Retracing her steps from her point of view and then flashing to current times. We are privy to her relationships and how she interacted with everyone. We learn her thought process up until the time of the fall. There was so much mystery surrounding Olivia's fall that I literally could not put this book down until I had some solid answers.

Towards the ending this story morphed into an emotional roller coaster for me. There is a part where the fine details that the author includes literally had me feeling like I was in the room with them. I often come away from a book feeling euphoric when I really love the book. This book touched on something that I can't even put into the words. I felt emotionally overwhelmed for several hours after finishing. I felt a sense of personal loss, which I never feel like this when reading a book. I had to keep reminding myself that it is a BOOK and it is a work of fiction. I think this speaks volumes as to the immense talent this author has that she managed to get me so emotionally worked up.

I obviously can't express how much I loved this book and I highly recommend it to everyone. This book is going to stay in my thoughts for a long time to come.

Between the Lies by Michelle Adams

Chloe Daniels wakes up in a hospital bed, confused she looks around to discover she has no idea how she got here and who these people are. In fact she doesn't even know her name. Following a horrific car accident Chloe struggles with extensive injuries, including a head injury that is causing her  severe memory problems.

This was absolutely terrifying right from the start as we watch Chloe struggle to place the people around her that are claiming to be family. She is forced to go home with them to a secluded gated home where she has no contact with anyone else other than them. Are they really who they say they are? Or is there more to this story?

This gave me chills as I had trouble trusting Chloe's family members and their rather unorthodox approach to helping Chloe heal. I found myself constantly wondering if they were telling her the truth or spinning a reality they wanted her to believe. Why would anyone lie and what would be their  motive?

I found myself getting more suspicious of everyone in Chloe's life. It was hard for me to decipher what was simply Chloe's altered mental status and what was reality. This led to a suspense filled ending that I did not see coming! This had me flipping the pages in search of Chloe's truth and what really happened the night of the accident.

Thank you so much to St. Martin's Press, Michelle Adams and NetGalley for this ARC.

The Woman Inside by E.G. Scott

Wow just wow!  This book was so flipping wrong but right up my alley. I loved this book! My favorite kind of book is a dark, twisted, crazy thriller and this sure was one. I am mad at myself for not reading this sooner.

Most of the focus is on Paul and Rebecca's 20 year marriage and how it started to unravel. Rebecca is quite the interesting character. She is a pharmaceutical representative that likes to sample her products. Paul is a former home builder that is now a real estate agent. These two are quite the couple, actually a match made in heaven. They had secrets from each other, secrets with other people and secrets with each other. I probably gasped a million times at the shocking things these two did. The character development was amazing and they were the couple I loved to hate!

This is such a twisted read that I can't say much more without giving things away. I never saw these twists coming and they were not just thrown in there to throw you off, they were well executed and shocking.

Everyone involved in the book is not really likable but who cares, it made them all the more interesting. I found myself holding my breath during the last chapter because it was just that crazy.

All I can say is if you have not read this, you need to! I am hoping E.G. Scott has something in the works because I can't wait to read another by this great duo. As a nurse I am praying that Euphellis is purely fictional. Fingers crossed.

Thank you so much to E.G. Scott, Penguin Group and Netgalley for this fantastic book!

They Hunting Party by Lucy Foley

Let's say you are invited along on an outing with a bunch of friends you have known for a good portion of your life. It's for a stay in an secluded, exclusive lodge that only accepts a very limited guest list throughout the year. The problem is it is so secluded that you could get stuck there if the weather deems it so. OMG no. Hell no! NO!

The Hunting Party is more party then hunting, thank goodness. As an animal lover I was a little concerned with the title. Rest assured, there is only a very small portion of the book regarding that. This group of rowdy friends are more interested in partying and socializing which was fine by me.

The weather took a turn for the worst and this group was stranded at the lodge. This would have sent me into panic mode, no way in and no way out. So when a dead body turns up, who did it? It forces you as the reader to look into all the dynamics and relationships of the group of friends. We are allowed a look into their past and this builds to the mystery of whom may have turned to violence in the group. There is also only three workers at the lodge so that narrows it down as they are also suspects. There is also the small detail of the serial killer that has been loose in the area. Seriously? These people went and stayed there? Oh and there was no lock on the door on at least one of the bedrooms.

Very early on we learn that there is a dead body and the book revolves around touching on all the characters pasts and personalities. It is a very who dunnit type of murder mystery that will leave you searching for answers until the end. This book was very atmospheric and a slow burn that kept building up until the truth was revealed. I read this with a group of my Traveling Sisters as a group read. Please check out what their thoughts were at Two Sisters Lost in a Coulee.

Thank you so much to Edelweiss, William Morrow and Lucy Foley for this ARC.

The Perfect Marriage by Debbie Viggiano

Earlier today as I was sitting here completely miserable from a cold I was trying to decide what to read. I wanted something fun, comforting and just something to make me feel better. I reached for The Perfect Marriage and it was in fact the perfect choice (no pun intended, well maybe). I devoured this book in one day as I could not put it down.

I loved this book! I know I am quite behind with reading this as it was published several years ago, but wow I am glad I read it.

Rosie Perfect lives a life that is far from perfect. She struggles to pull herself up and create a better life for herself and her son Luke but others around her are making this difficult. I adored Rosie right from the start. I loved her determined, spunky can do attitude.

I expected this is be a funny light read, which it was, yet it was so much more. The characters were well developed and there is even a bit of a thriller/suspense plot thrown in. This book had me biting my nails one minute and laughing my butt off the next!

I have been wanting to read a Debbie Viggiano book for quite awhile now, I just had not gotten to it. I have heard such good things about her books and I was not surprised that I absolutely loved it! The only shocking thing is that I actually read this one before What Holly's Husband Did. It has been driving me crazy wondering what the heck that dude did!

I couldn't resist this  gorgeous cover and great blurb. I see many more Debbie Viggiano books in my future. Does Ms. Perfect end up with a perfect life? I guess you will have to read it to find out! This book was just what the doctor ordered today to cheer me up.

An Impossible Thing Called Love by Belinda Missen

An Impossible Thing Called Love
Don’t miss the new delightfully uplifting book from the author of A Recipe for Disaster!
A second chance at love…
When globe-trotting Emmy first fell for first-aider William on a freezing New Year’s Eve, she really believed that their love would go the distance.
But when she returns to Australia, her letters start to go unanswered and her emails bounce back unread, Emmy decides it’s time to pick up the pieces of her broken heart and start afresh in London.
So she’s shocked when William walks in on her very first day at her new job! Even worse, he’s hotter than ever. But why did he disappear for so long? What has he been hiding? And could this really be their second chance at falling in love…?
Perfect for fans of Carole Mathews, Mhairi McFarlane and Carrie Hope Fletcher.

My Thoughts

Do you believe in serendipity? I just might after reading this book. I simply can't express what a joy this book was to read! I absolutely loved it!

While on vacation Emmy and William have a chance encounter and sparks fly. Forced to part ways as the vacation comes to an end, they vow to keep in touch and seal it with a kiss. Month after month of letters are exchanged and it seems like they are going to be an adorable couple. Then just as Emmy is planning to come for a visit, William seemingly falls off the face of the earth! All communication on his part comes to a grinding halt.

My heart sunk, I was riddled with questions of what has become of William. Had he had some terrible accident? Was he even alive? Or maybe he had a wife and children that Emmy didn't know about? I found myself initially mad at William, thinking he must be up to no good. Then my anger turned to worry and dread as I feared something terrible may have happened.

Are Emmy and William destined to meet again, perhaps by chance as they once did? I loved reading the banter back and forth between these two! Emmy is such a likeable girl and I found myself rooting for her to find true love despite all the hurdles she had to endure. I loved living vicariously through Emmy as she moved to London and went on her adventures checking off her London (bucket, death) list! You will know what I mean when you read this delightful book!

Thank you so much to Rachel Gilbey and Belinda Missen for having me along on this fantastic blog tour! I can't wait to see what this author has for us next!

Finding Grace by K.L. Slater

This morning, my daughter sat right here, munching her breakfast, too excited to finish it. Now, she is missing.

The day after her ninth birthday, Lucie and Blake Sullivan agree, for the very first time, to let their daughter, Grace, make the four-minute walk back home alone from a friend’s house just down the street.

They joke with friends about hiding behind bushes to ensure she is safe. But the joke turns sour when Grace does not appear.

Despite the best efforts of the police and local community, Grace seems to have vanished into thin air. With hope fading fast, Lucie knows she can rely on her husband to support her through such dark times. That is until the day she makes a shocking discovery, hidden in Blake’s desk, and suddenly she begins to doubt everything she knew about the man she married.

But Lucie harbours a terrible secret of her own. One that she has never shared with anyone, even Blake …

And as the search for Grace reaches fever pitch, Lucie receives a terrifying message. If she is ever to see Grace again, Lucie has no choice but to face the past she tried hard to bury forever. And she must do it alone.

The most gripping psychological thriller you’ll read this year from the bestselling author K.L. Slater. If you love The Wife Between Us or Gone Girl, you’ll be totally hooked on Finding Grace.

My Thoughts
This right here people is a perfect example of a psychological thriller. K.L. Slater had me wrapped around her finger with this one. I could do nothing else until I found out what happened to Grace.

It was only a five minute walk from the neighbor's house to Grace's home. How did she go missing? Better yet, how did nobody see her? A tight knit community like Violet Rd where everyone knows each other and not one person saw her?

My anxiety continued to rise and I literally felt my stomach knot up as facts about all the neighbors came to light. My suspicions were running awry as the character development grew. Everyone seemed to have something in their past or present that made them a suspect in my mind.

Then the bombshell of Lucie's past is revealed. Is she being made to pay for her prior mistakes? Is karma at work or is someone out to make her pay?

K.L. Slater is actually able to capture the psychological pain that Lucie is feeling and she transferred that to me. I felt like I was right alongside them searching for Grace. Every time I thought I had it figured out, she dropped another detail that blew my mind. If you want a book that you absolutely are not able to put down, that has shocking twists and one hell of an ending, this is it!!!

Marrying Mr. Valentine by Laura Barnard

Nadine Roberts smiles for everyone, but beneath it she hides a heartbreaking past that only a few know about. Throwing herself into her new career; wedding planner at The Duck & Goose, a property recently purchased by newlyweds Florence and Hugh, has helped distract her from her loneliness.

When a teary bride suddenly cancels her upcoming wedding Nadine looks to the two year waiting list. Clara Blumenkrantz and Hartley Valentine. It’ll have to be a quick turnaround, but what’s the worst that can happen, right?

This should be like every other wedding she plans, but the magnetism she feels towards Mr Valentine disrupts the orderly life she’s worked hard to carve out.

Can she ignore her intense desires and be a professional? Or will she open up her heart to the one person that has the power to break it? And in doing so endanger not just her job, but her venue’s reputation?

My Thoughts

I can't tell you how much I loved this book!!! What a perfect book to read just before Valentine's Day. I literally could not put this down until I devoured the whole thing. This is such a fun, feel good read I got completely swept away with it.

Nadine is a wedding planner at The Duck and Goose and she is damn good at her job. So good in fact that there is two year wait to get married there. Nadine is the star of the book for sure. She reminds me a bit of a Bridgett Jones type of girl. She is sweet, a great person but OMG one crazy girl! She gets herself in the most hilarious situations but always comes out smelling like a rose. Well she didn't smell like a rose much when she got drunk and pooped her pants at a bar....This book had me laughing so hard, I couldn't believe the things Nadine said and did. She is one cheeky girl.

I wanted so badly for Nadine to find love, as she is rather unlucky in that department. Unfortunately the person I wanted her to be with was already taken. Is there any chance of Nadine finding happiness in the love department?

I went into this book expecting to like it because it looked adorable and had great reviews. I instead LOVED it and I can't recommend it enough! If you want a happy, upbeat fun as hell book to read, this is it!! Talk about cover love, this cover is gorgeous.

Thank you so much to Laura Barnard for this copy to read and review. I can't wait to read whatever she has coming out next!
