Never Coming Home by Hannah Mary McKinnon

Pub date:  May 24, 2022

First comes love. Then comes murder.
Lucas Forester didn't hate his wife. Michelle was brilliant, sophisticated and beautiful. Sure, she had extravagant spending habits and that petty attitude, a total disregard for anyone below her status. But she also had a lot to offer. Most notably, wealth that only the one percent could comprehend.

For years, Lucas had been honing a flawless plan to inherit Michelle’s fortune. Unfortunately, it involved taking a hit out on her.

Every track was covered, no trace left behind, and now Lucas plays the grieving husband so well he deserves an award. But when a shocking photo and cryptic note show up on his doorstep, Lucas goes from hunter to prey.

Someone is onto him. And they’re closing in.

Told with dark wit and a sharply feminist sensibility, Never Coming Home is a terrifying tale of duplicity that will have you side-eyeing your spouse as you dash to the breathtaking end.

My Thoughts

OMG guys!!! I have read some really great books this year. The thrillers are off the chain… but this baby is at the very top of my list of favorites of the year so far!!! It may even be my favorite..πŸ€”

Why you ask? Well a big reason would be Lucas.. I LOVED to hate him!! He is my very favorite type of character! 😍 Snarky inner voice ✅ Gets me every..single..time…😬… pompous ✅ Clever✅ Murderer✅ Oh wait… Murderer? Hmm … well technically he hired someone to do his work.. or did he??πŸ€”πŸ™„πŸ€·‍♀️🀐

This book honestly had my adrenaline running… especially those last couple of chapters.. that ending…. was….phenomenal 😳😳😳… I closed the book and I was… freaked out! Soooo creepy!! πŸ‘

Hannah Mary McKinnon is a new to me author but she has quickly made it to my must read list! ❤️I have read 3 of her books this year and have Sister Dear on it’s way to me as we speak. I have loved all three but this one.. blew me away! 😍😳🀯A perfect thriller!! ❤️

Thank you soo much to Mira Books and Hannah Mary McKinnon  for my gifted copy!!! πŸ₯°πŸ₯°πŸ₯°

About the author:

I was born in the UK and grew up in Switzerland. Unsurprisingly I love chocolate, mountains and cheese, and books, of course.

When I moved to Canada with my husband and three sons in 2010 I went through an (early) mid-life crisis. Maybe it was the failed attempt at a start-up company, but one morning I decided to follow my oldest passion; writing - and never looked back.

My first novel, TIME AFTER TIME, a light-hearted romantic read, was published by HarperCollins AVON in 2016. I subsequently moved over to the dark side. THE NEIGHBORS, a domestic suspense story, was published by MIRA in 2018 followed by bestsellers HER SECRET SON, SISTER DEAR (also published in the UK, Australia, New Zealand, and South Africa), and YOU WILL REMEMBER ME, which was on the bestseller lists for 8 weeks.

NEVER COMING HOME features Lucas, my most wicked and funniest character, releases on May 24, 2022. I'm now working on books 7, 8, and 9 for 2023 and 2024, which include the holiday rom com THE CHRISTMAS WAGER (working title) under the pseudonym Holly Cassidy.

First Born by Will Dean

About the book:

Publication Date: July 5th

From the acclaimed author of The Last Thing to Burn, a psychological thriller about the dark secrets that emerge when a woman’s twin sister is murdered, with his signature “intense, gripping, taut, terrifying, moving, and brilliant” (Lisa Jewell, #1 New York Times bestselling author) prose.

Sisters. Soulmates. Strangers.

Molly Raven lives a quiet, structured life in London, finding comfort in security and routine. Her identical twin Katie, living in New York, is the exact opposite: outgoing, spontaneous, and adventurous.

But when Molly hears that Katie has died, possibly murdered, she is thrown into unfamiliar territory. As terrifying as it is, she knows she must travel across the ocean and find out what happened. But as she tracks her twin’s final movements, cracks begin to emerge, and she slowly realizes her sister was not who she thought she was and there’s a dangerous web of deceit surrounding the two of them.

My Thoughts

Katie and Molly are twins πŸ‘―‍♀️…so they must be just alike.. right?! Umm wrong…they are so completely different!

Molly is super quirky… and I do mean quirky.. planning for everything.. walking a straight line… not into anything remotely risky or adventurous.. worry controls her life.😬

Katie is popular, spontaneous, the life of the party..sometimes Molly resents her a bit for this.πŸ₯³πŸ₯‚πŸ₯ƒπŸΊπŸΉ

When Katie goes to the Big Apple 🍎 to college and leaves Molly home in London… Molly is devastated. However nothing prepares her for the phone call… that her sister has been murdered..😳 Buckle up for a wild ride…. this story has just begun!

Wow! This was dark, twisted and original! The first twist hit … and I almost missed it.. because I was like wait.. noooo .. wait.. yes that did just happen was kind of like I thought I heard wrong…. Yet I was reading it! πŸ™„πŸ˜‚πŸ€·‍♀️

Then the plot just got more twisted. This was a definite page turner that I blew through because I just couldn’t put it down.

As it unraveled before my eyes I was completely shocked at the direction it took! Will Dean is a "new to me" author and I can't wait to read his backlist.

Now apparently I need to get The Last Thing to Burn!!πŸ”₯ Huge shoutout to Emily Bestler Books for my gorgeous gifted copy!

Will Dean grew up in the East Midlands, living in nine different villages before the age of eighteen. He was a bookish, daydreaming kid who found comfort in stories and nature (and he still does). After studying Law at the LSE, and working in London, he settled in rural Sweden. He built a wooden house in a boggy clearing at the centre of a vast elk forest, and it's from this base that he compulsively reads and writes. He is the author of Dark Pines.

Everything Must Go by Camille Pagan

Release Date: April 26, 2022

About The Book:

Laine Francis believes there’s a place for everything—and New York, where her family lives, isn’t her place. But no sooner does the professional organizer’s marriage begin to unravel than her sisters drop another bomb on her: their mother, Sally, may have dementia, and they need Laine to come home.

Laine agrees to briefly return to Brooklyn. After all, bringing order to chaos is what she does best. To Laine’s relief, Sally seems no more absentminded than usual. So Laine vows to help her mother maintain her independence, then hightail it back to Michigan.

Except Laine’s plans go awry when she runs into her former best friend, Ben, and realizes she finally has a chance to repair their fractured relationship. Then she discovers that memory loss isn’t the only thing Sally’s been hiding, forcing Laine to decide whether to reveal a devastating truth to her sisters—and whether to follow her heart when it means breaking her mother’s.

My Thoughts

I loved this book! This book gave me all the feels! Do you ever have a book that you have to put down because...well you all you can think about is picking it back up. This was that book for me! I kept thinking...hmm I wonder what Laine is up to now?

Laine left NYC to move to Michigan to start a family- with her husband Josh and her dog Belle. Yet Josh ALWAYS had an excuse...and Laine's not getting any younger...

As if there wasn't enough going on in her marriage...her sisters urger her to rush back to NYC...because their mom acting strange...

I absolutely feel in love with Sally! That we got to see her POV was touching...heartwarming and sometimes funny. The family dynamics were fantastic! Let's not forget Sally had some secrets of her own!!! well I didn't expect that!

Okay so as you can tell I loved this book! I think the thing I loved the most was how real it is. This is life...right here.  The ups....the things don't go as planned. It's not often that you can say that a book is exactly true to life- you can with this book. It made me love the characters even more. I wanted to hug Laine and tell her...girl it's going to be okay....but would it?
