Over Her Dead Body by Susan Walter

About The Book:

An inheritance that comes with a warning.

Ashley Brooks’s life isn’t working out as planned. After years of struggling to make it in Hollywood, she’s still waiting for her big break. When fate leads her to the doorstep of legendary casting director Louisa Lake George, Ashley thinks her luck is about to change: the prickly old pro knows about a role she’s perfect for. The aspiring actress never gets to thank her, though, because the day after the audition, Louisa is dead. The bigger shock—she left all her money to Ashley.

Louisa’s grown children arrive stunned and ready to fight. Her nephew tries to play peacemaker, while Ashley grapples with why Louisa would leave her fortune to a stranger—and whether she should keep it. But Ashley quickly discovers everyone, including the dead woman, is hiding something, and it’s a race to get to the truth before someone else winds up dead.

MY THOUGHTS

Happy Saturday Booksta peeps! 😘 Fantastic thriller alert! 🚨 Thank you @suzyapprovedbooktours for having me along on tour!!! Pub date 🥳🥳was 11/1 and trust me…😉… you need this book!! I loved it!! The reviews are 🔥 🔥🔥🔥

Well… it all started with a dog 🐕 walk that went horribly wrong…😬 .. No worries… NOTHING but good stuff happens to the dog. ❤️Whew right?? Anyways…

Brando the dog 🐕 takes off and leads Ashley into the yard of THE HOUSE… the one that says No trespassing… basically letting you know… you will be shot dead ☠️ if you do..😳😬😳⛔️ Let’s just say… things got very…. Interesting 🤔

Why did I love this book??? A struggling actress in Hollywood meets a famous director…they hit it off like a house 🏡 on fire..🔥.. Louisa is crafty.. aloof and cold as ice 🧊… so why is she so interested in helping Ashley with her career??? 🤔 Weirder yet… why is Louisa… now dead???😳… Guys that is JUST the beginning!! 🤭🤫

This was so twisted and well quite frankly.. FUN!! It’s a super fast read and I literally couldn’t put it down! ❤️

5 big Hollywood stars for this one!! Seriously hop on Goodreads and check out the fantastic reviews!! 🐕⛔️🧊☠️😬😳🤯

Thank you @suzyapprovedbooktours @susie_filmmaker for this gorgeous gifted copy!!

🐕🐕 I need to read Good as Dead!! Have you read that one?? Is this one on your list?? Would you trespass? Like Ashley.. I would for my dog! 🐕

About The Author:

The winner of the (not terribly) prestigious WIFTS screenwriting award for All I Wish, the film she wrote and directed starring Sharon Stone (currently streaming on Netflix), Susan Walter is excited to add “first time novelist” to an eclectic resume that includes “failed concert violinist,” “unwatchable TV news reporter,” and “dazed mother to two teenage girls.” Groomed to be alone in a room for hours on end by a childhood spent practicing violin, writing a book came naturally to Susan, and her husband is hopeful she will finally have a reason to use her computer for something more productive than watching Red Sox baseball. A native of Boston, she suppresses her irresistible accent to avoid stink eye from sports fans across Los Angeles, where she now resides. She has an AB in government from Harvard, which she thus far fails to put to good use, and enjoys skiing, lazy bike rides, and wicked strong coffee.

Forever is the Worst Long Time by Camille Pagán

About the book:

From acclaimed author Camille Pagán comes a wry, heartfelt exploration of love and loss.

When struggling novelist James Hernandez meets poet Louisa “Lou” Bell, he’s sure he’s just found the love of his life. There’s just one problem: she’s engaged to his oldest friend, Rob. So James toasts their union and swallows his desire.

As the years pass, James’s dreams always seem just out of reach—he can’t finish that novel, can’t mend his relationship with his father, can’t fully commit to a romantic relationship. He just can’t move on. But after betrayal fractures Lou’s once-solid marriage, she turns to James for comfort.

When Lou and James act on their long-standing mutual attraction, the consequences are more heartbreaking—and miraculous—than either of them could have ever anticipated. Then life throws James one more curveball, and he, Rob, and Lou are forced to come to terms with the unexpected ways in which love and loss are intertwined.

MY THOUGHTS

Guys… this book destroyed me!! ❤️ In the best possible way of course…😉… I have five other books that I should review but this is the one I NEED to talk about!! ❤️I finished this up today… and I can count the number of times I have ugly cried from a book on one hand… umm I ugly cried 😭sooo hard with this book! When a book is that powerful… you have to tell someone.. 🤷‍♀️ You all are my someone.

When Rob brings his newest girlfriend to meet his oldest friend… well it’s instant attraction..🥰… Unfortunately it is James.. aka Jim falling head over heels 👠 for Lou… too bad Rob found her first..🤨 Oh my gosh the tension!! 😂 I was on edge wondering… What is Jim going to do?? Let his true love get away?? 😟 Wreck his lifelong friendship??? 😳 I wanted to scream what are you going to do Jim???!! 😬😂

I know why I got soo worked up.. 🤨 This is my second book I have read by @camillepagan .. and just like the last one… I fell in love with this story… the characters.. I was so so so invested…. they felt real to me… she truly has a gift with being able to make her characters jump off the pages and into your life! ❤️

Guys.. I am totally late to the party 🎉 with this one… it is from 2017! If you have not read it yet.. I highly recommend it!!! Head on over to Goodreads… more than 7,000 reviews and still going strong with a 4.07!! ❤️ Definitely one to pick up!! 5 cry my heart ❤️ out stars… I absolutely loved it!

The Mother I Never Had by Gary Goldstein

About the book:

Pub date:  10/11/22

It's tough enough for L.A. landscape designer Nate Cronin when his professor father, Jim, who raised him alone since birth, dies, leaving Nate an orphan at thirty years old. But when the provocative and mysterious Amy enters Nate’s life soon after, it sends him on a devastating journey to unravel the truth about his past, the veracity of Amy’s claims, and the history of the father he adored.

At the same time, Nate must come to terms with his commitment to his longtime girlfriend, Jennifer, a dance instructor whose patience with the resistant Nate frays as she attempts to help him navigate the psychological minefield set off by Amy’s arrival.

The Mother I Never Had asks readers to consider what they would do if they found themselves faced with a parent they never knew existed—and if they could accept the secrets and lies that kept her away for a lifetime.

MY THOUGHTS

Guys… I loved this book! ❤️ This is a book that captivates you from the very first page. Nate’s journey was not only heartbreaking… but it was so darn real. Nate is such a well developed character that I felt I knew him….

You are just living your life… making your way as an L.A. landscaper 🪴… you have your adorable dog Cody… which of course all the girls love.. 🐕… then life hits with a curveball… your father is ripped from your life…your longtime girlfriend is calling it quits..😬… and you find a new woman entering your life… one you NEVER saw coming..😳

The writing is amazing. I can’t even exactly put my finger on it .. but it is so easy to read this book.. it was like I was sitting and chatting with my dude Nate. 🤷‍♀️ In fact.. I didn’t even realize how emotionally invested I was until the end.. when I found myself having anxiety as I waited to see how this was going to unfold… I loved how this wrapped up. 😉

Such an amazing journey of life.. love.. loss… secrets 🤫… I found myself not wanting this story to end… you can bet I will be picking up @garygoldsteinla debut The Last Birthday Party! 🥳
